Community Engagement
At Croydon SDS is a welcoming community where diversity is celebrated. It’s important to us that all families feel included and connected at Croydon SDS. We work in partnership between home and school to create common goals and consistency of strategies to support learning and wellbeing outcomes for your child.
We also invite members of our school community to share their ideas and participate in decision making to assist our school to be inclusive for all students, families and cultures. We enjoy hearing and learning from families about their cultural traditions and invite families to attend school events and activities. We are fortunate to have a full time school based, Hakha Chin speaking Multicultural Education Aide. We also access interpreter and translation services to support communication with other languages. It’s important to us to have close working partnerships with parents and carers, cultural groups, local organisations and local schools to build an inclusive, supportive and culturally safe school.
Throughout the year, families are invited to participate in the school community events, such as:
- Monthly morning teas to meet with other parents and carers, and hear from school based and external providers on topics of parent/carer interest,
- Welcome BBQ and Meet the Classroom Team afternoon in term 1,
- Education Week Open Day
- Footy Day / Sports Fun Day, (term 3)
- Showcase and Shine, (term 4).
Updates, photos and student reflections about these special events are highlighted in our fortnightly school newsletter, (In-Touch) and in Compass posts.
