Principal's Welcome

Welcome to Croydon Special Developmental School

It is both an honour and privilege to be the principal of Croydon SDS, to lead and work in collaboration with the school community.  At Croydon SDS, our inclusive and supportive community places our students at the centre.

Croydon SDS was established on our current site in Croydon South, located in the Outer Eastern suburbs of Melbourne in 1990. In 2025, we opened our new administration, pool, library and gymnasium. We are a co-educational school for students aged 5 to 18 years with a moderate to profound intellectual disability.  We also offer an Early Education Program that caters for children aged 2.8 to 4.8 years, (as of January 1st of that year) with significant delays in two or more developmental areas or a diagnosed disability.

We have a team of highly skilled and committed teachers, education support and allied health staff who work in partnership with families to create a team around each of our students as learners.  Croydon SDS delivers curriculum across all learning areas through multi-tiered supports.  Our learning environment provides explicit teaching, scaffolding learning and modelling.  All staff build positive student and family relationships based on trust, support and safety for everyone to live and develop through our school values, Care, Share, Do Your Best and Be Safe.

Our school values provide the foundations of the School Wide Positive Behaviour Support framework and the expected behaviours.  Our school curriculum offers flexibility for teachers to provide structured, individualised, engaging learning experiences that are responsive to the learning needs of our students.  Personal and social capabilities are embedded across all curriculum areas; we promote positive student wellbeing and engagement through explicitly teaching and providing applied learning opportunities for lifelong learning, social development, active and informed citizenship, and for each student to achieve success.

We warmly invite you to explore our website to learn about our curriculum, programs and community partnerships and supports. Please contact us if you would like to discuss your child’s learning needs and have a personal tour of our school.
